An icon of Italian design around the world, Giorgetto Giugiaro is deemed to be one of the greatest contemporary designers at international level. Destined for an artistic future, a legacy from his grandfather Luigi and his father Mario – both of whom worked in the visual arts – he has an extraordinary creative talent. Established over two generations of entrepreneurs, the Italdesign-Giugiaro Group, of which Giorgetto Giugiaro is chairman, is a crowning achievement and meeting point for creativity, design methodology and technology. The group, which is based in Turin’s Moncalieri car-making district, currently employs 1,000 staff and has many branches and agencies around the world. The Giugiaro Design division executes innovative design projects for consumer products in the most diverse industrial sectors, ranging from optical and photographic equipment to information technology, and architecture to urban landscape planning. Giorgetto Giugiaro has been defined as “one of the people who has helped to shape the development of the European car industry”. Over more than 50 years, he’s created many prestigious car models, prototypes and sports cars with a highly personal imprint that seek to achieve optimum ergonomics and use of interior spaces. His latest research prototype, the Vad.ho, is an extreme, tandem-seat, super sports car with a hydrogen-burning engine, inspired by aeronautics. Giorgetto Giugiaro has received many important awards, as well as six honorary degrees from top universities, and the Order of Merit for Labour. He’s a prime example of Made in Italy reaching out to the future.
