Vittorio Merloni’s career began in the 1960s when he joined the family firm after graduating in economics and commerce. Since then the road taken by this industrialist from the Marches region has been paved with triumphs in Italy and overseas. From 1975 to the present he’s been chairman of Merloni Elettrodomestici. In 1980 he was appointed as president of Confindustria, and in 1984 he was awarded the Order of Merit for Labour. In 2003 he was decorated as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his entrepreneurial endeavours in the British market. The number three European company in its sector and listed on the Italian Stock Exchange since 1987, in 2003 Merloni Elettrodomestici S.A. registered turnover of €3 billion and employed a workforce of around 20,000 people. Always a firm believer in the European Union and a vigorous supporter of the need to internationalise manufacturing activities, Vittorio Merloni has led Merloni Elettrodomestici for more than 30 years in pursuit of a successful international development model that combines internal growth with acquisitions. So today Merloni Elettrodomestici is a pan-European company, with 22 commercial offices and 19 plants throughout Europe, which has been able to spread and integrate its philosophy and values with the local culture in the countries where it’s located, and also aims to foster social progress in the environments where it operates.
